Bring the spa to Mom.

Create a tranquil setting mom can escape to at home. Set a few aromatherapy candles and luxurious bath products around the bathroom, hang a plush bathrobe on the door, and turn on some soothing music. Encouraging her to relax for a few hours (or the entire day) will help her feel renewed and appreciated.

Offer to spring clean.

Clutter and disorganization can increase stress levels, which, in turn, can impact our health. Turn chaos into calm by helping mom organize her closet, office or kitchen pantry. Stacking drawers, hooks and baskets make great space-saving solutions. Plus, working together on the project will give you time to bond.

Skip the florist.

Sure, flowers are lovely, but their beauty is only temporary. Instead, give her something she can enjoy year round. A healthy cookbook, kitchen gadgets like a steamer or olive oil mister, or attending a nutrition seminar together will encourage healthy eating habits well past Mother’s Day.

Give a get-fit gift basket.

Create a gift basket filled with fitness essentials that encourage mom to workout. Here are a few basket basics:

  • Dumbbells or a kettlebell
  • Yoga mat
  • iPod Nano, pre-loaded with mom’s favorite workout tunes
  • Pedometer (Hint: Tell us how you’re celebrating Mother’s Day and win a free pedometer. Share your story.
  • Workout top
  • Zumba™ or other dance fitness DVD

Picnic in the park.

Avoid the Mother’s Day brunch crowd and head out to your family’s favorite NYC park. Pack the picnic basket with fresh foods from the local street or farmer’s markets. Cherries, spinach, asparagus and avocados are great seasonal choices. If the weather doesn’t permit on May 13th, make her a healthy brunch at home using our Women’s Health recipes.
